Case studies

Two programmes, without the names.

No OEM names, no product names and no partner names. The numbers are the ones the customer allowed us to publish.

Case 01

Full in-vehicle traffic capture, then the same scope on the bench at lower cost

Customer

A large German OEM.

Problem

Capturing all in-vehicle communication was expensive, slow to set up and heavy. Space, power and coverage inside the vehicle were the limiting factors.

What we did

A few weeks of understanding the real constraints, then a modular real-time capture setup. It converts every relevant vehicle interface into an IT-compatible format without disturbing the vehicle network. Source and time information stay intact with high fidelity. Storage is optional, because it is a major cost driver. Copy stations, encryption and trigger- or event-based trace identification are part of the scope.

Rollout

The customer sourced the equipment directly. With expert engineering support, systems were running four to six weeks after the devices arrived on site.

Remote operation

Full remote diagnostics, remote configuration and remote flash updates of the capture systems.

Scale

Several hundred vehicles equipped. A mid-size two-digit number of them with full trace capture, the rest with a lighter specification.

Second step

Second step: extension to static test benches. Same scope, format, depth and interface coverage at considerably lower cost, using bench-appropriate equipment instead of in-vehicle grade. Depending on the component, typically 30 to 60 percent lower.

Result

Coverage, space and power limits solved. The setup is repeatable and scales with the fleet.

Several hundredvehicles equipped
4 to 6 weeksfrom delivery to running systems
30 to 60 %lower cost per bench, by component
The lesson: The expensive part is rarely the capture itself. It is choosing the right grade of equipment for each place.
Case 02

A validation setup for a vehicle architecture that did not exist yet

Problem

Validate an architecture before any real vehicle existed. The required scope was 150 to 180 percent of the brand's largest vehicle.

What we did

The same modular approach, scaled to full trace capture across all communication interfaces. No interference with the network or with how the ECUs interact.

Added value

Diagnostic information that pinpoints problems faster, including cabling faults. Fast recognition of abnormal events. Live monitoring during capture, independent of full trace storage.

Cabling faults

Cabling faults were found within minutes by a routine check.

Same data everywhere

Identical resolution, fidelity and format from vehicles, simple test benches, partial systems and the full lab car.

Result

Repeatable tests let the customer reproduce complex problems and give developers the data they need for a fix. Fixes were verified in days instead of weeks or months.

1.5 to 1.8xof the largest vehicle scope
Minutesto find cabling faults
Daysto verify a fix
The lesson: When the data is the same in the car and on every bench, problems can be reproduced and fixes tested fast.
Track record

Where this has run.

Several hundred vehicles at German and international OEMs equipped with our approach to data capture.

The work behind these cases comes from our team's and founder's experience in OEM validation programmes and from our partners' delivery.

Your programme can be the third case.

Tell us the constraint that is blocking the next test phase. We will say within one call whether we can remove it.
